Marion Art Center7 viewsThe Marion Art Center spring exhibition features works by Bernie Klim and Joshua Baptista. Klim’s style of rapidly applied, single-layer brushstrokes presents the viewer with a sense of fresh breezes guiding the artist’s hand. Baptista’s drawings invite the viewer into a world slightly off center but thick and dense with emerging stories. Now on view through May 17. Photos by Marilou Newell

Marion Natural History Museum7 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s Community group had a terrific morning doing some bird watching with Justin Barrett last week. Justin is the president of the Nasketucket Bird Club and longtime member of the museum’s Board of Directors. We saw 28 different species including a yellow rumpled warbler, a pine warbler, an eastern towhee, Downey woodpeckers, northern flickers and many chipping sparrows. Marion Natural History Museum6 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's July Coastal Exploration group had a fun week exploring some of Marion's natural areas. We examined green frog tadpoles and a frog metamorphosis, were invited to explore Ram Island, visited the donkeys and learned about filter feeders, including some of the largest ones like whales. We explored a salt marsh, cleaned up a rocky beach at Planting Island and removed the plastic waste from the wrack line before it entered or reentered the bay. Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Leid

Marion Natural History Museum 6 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum enjoyed a presentation by Stephanie Ellis, executive director of Wild Care, Inc. We heard how various animals get hurt, be it hit by a car, rat-poisoned birds of prey, glue traps, etc., and how Wild Care takes care of many wildlife species in their organization. Stephanie brought in "Garv," the Eastern Box Turtle; he was raised as a pet and does not know how to survive in the woods anymore.
