Mattapoisett Polar Plunge113 viewsNew Year’s Day 2023 was bright and balmy when over 100 “plungers” ran, walked, hopped and slid into the freezing waters at Mattapoisett Town Beach. The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. The group has been successful in their efforts to help offset the unseen costs associated with a cancer diagnosis impacting local families. Marion Natural History Museum113 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum braved the snowy weather Wednesday and attending members were rewarded with 18 different shoreline bird sightings. The sightings included a large “raft” of sleepy Greater Scaup, Canada Geese, American Black Duck, Surf Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Horned Grebe, Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull, Common Loon, American Crow, American Robin, House Finch, Song Sparrow and Northern Cardinal.
