Marion Natural History Museum115 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's Coastal Exploration group had a wonderful time last week exploring Marion's shoreline, inland wetlands and woodland areas. We collected examples of plankton, caught fish and frogs in our nets, investigated tide pools and took trips to Bird and Ram Island. Sippican Elementary School115 viewsSippican Elementary School held its Open House on Monday night, where faculty and staff were on hand to greet both new students and those returning with their families. Principal Marla Sirois is with parent Anna Ward and Grade 6 student Ollie Ward. Volunteers at Sippican Elementary (VASE) members present included president Johanna Vergoni, vice president Barbara Moody and Kerry Milhench of the Sixth Grade parent group.

Llama Visit115 viewsLauren and Jeff Paine from Pine Meadow Farm in Mattapoisett brought Chocolate and Patience to visit the children at the Loft School on October 20. The Pre-K class has been learning about Peru this month. The children had a chance to ask questions, see what Alpacas eat, feel their shorn fur and pet their new friends. Salty Soiree115 viewsThe annual Mattapoisett Land Trust Salty Soiree held on October 22 at Dunseith Park was a huge success, as young and old enjoyed a fire pit, 200 luminaries and s'mores. Adding to the festive event was music provided by Jeff Dunn and unique, fantasy-filled puppet stories and songs by Jackson Gillman. MLT's Director and Chair of the Education Committee Ellen Flynn noted in her “thank you” message that Center School students have "artfully decorated the luminaries in Halloween and traditional art." The students had a chance to take a close look at some of the artifacts he's found in his backyard and were shown how to use a metal detector to help find some of these items.

Old Rochester Regional Unified Basketball 115 viewsThe Old Rochester Regional Unified Basketball team capped off its 2022-23 season with a 72-51 victory over Tri-Town Police officers at the high school. Try as they might, the local officers were unable to contain ORR’s Unified team, made up of special-needs athletes and partners who together played a fall schedule of games against other schools.

Marion Natural History Museum 115 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum community group and the Nasketucket Bird Club had a wonderful birding walk on November 16 led by Justin Barrett. We were able to identify over 18 different species of birds including belted kingfishers, golden-crowned kinglets, and red-breasted Nuthatches. Tri-Town firefighters115 viewsThe holidays were challenging for Tri-Town firefighters. Marion and Rochester fire departments were among towns assisting Wareham after a mulch pile in a remote location off County Road caught fire on Christmas Eve. Firefighters worked in cold temperatures for eight hours, dispensing approximately 200,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
