Whale Bark Wanderer178 viewsMattapoisett Museum Curator Connor Gaudet and volunteer Bob Clifford unpack the custom model of the Whale Bark Wanderer 1878 recreated by artist George Lowery from scratch and donated to the museum. The model arrived on Tuesday afternoon from Arizona in a crate weighing a total of 181 pounds. Marion Natural History Museum178 viewsOn February 9, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted a presentation on Native American sites in and around Marion. Principal Investigator Erin Flynn from Public Archaeology Labs, Inc. (PAL) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, gave an excellent presentation including many locally found artifacts in the museum's collection and others. Named after the Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., the preserve includes multiple trails spanning from Angelica Avenue out to Route 6 and in between a vernal pool that has served as an off-campus classroom for local students. Fire Department Open House178 viewsOn October 10 and 11, Marion and Mattapoisett Fire Departments held open houses featuring plenty of fun for children of all ages. The occasion was the National Fire Prevention Week.
Since 1922, the National Fire Protection Association has been helping local fire departments with educational materials related to fire safety.
