Mattapoisett Congregational Church169 viewsMattapoisett Congregational Church held outdoor service on Sunday featuring “Bring your own lawn chair,” as some folks sat in cars at curbside. No hymns were sung by members; the socially distant, mask-clad crowd enjoyed musical tunes by Jake Huntsinger, and Pastor Amy Lignitz-Harken gave the sermon. Santa Arrives169 viewsThe Town of Rochester wasn’t able to host its traditional Christmas celebration this year, but the Fire Department made sure that Santa and Mrs. Claus and Sparky visited with children on Sunday outside Town Hall, where Board of Selectmen Chairman Paul Ciaburri presided over the lighting of the tree. Ciaburri was thrilled to report that the Christmas Angels, run by Lorraine Thompson with volunteers from the Council on Aging, the public library, local businesses, schools, and churches haven’t missed a beat.

Pre-dawn Fire169 viewsA pre-dawn fire on February 18 engulfed a detached garage at 62 Water Street in Marion. The lone injury was a minor one for which a responding firefighter was later treated at Tobey Hospital and released. The fire also resulted in the total loss of a pickup truck parked outside. Poetry169 viewsBodil Perkins recently made this book for her aunt, Ann Briggs, who is 90 years old and has lived in Mattapoisett most of her life. The book contains 42 poems and the library recently said it was a "delightful book" and will be accepting a donated copy. Ann started taking poetry classes in her 80s.

Marion 4th of July Parade169 viewsMarion Town Administrator Jay McGrail and Select Board members Norm Hills, John Waterman, and Randy Parker walked the Independence Day parade route on Monday morning along with veterans, marching bands, Boy and Girl Scout troops, youth baseball teams, decorated floats, fire engines, and a convoy of antique cars. Beginning at the Town House, the parade route went up Spring Street, then east on Route 6 before going right onto Front Street all the way down to Main Street and back up to Spring. Photos by Ryan F
