Festival of Trees 216 viewsThe Festival of Trees opened on November 27 with a reception at the Cushing Community Center on Route 6 in Marion. Sponsored by the Friends of Marion Council on Aging, the event showcased 14 decorated Christmas trees, along with an artisan sale, music, refreshments and a raffle for over 10 gift baskets. Bowman’s career dates back to 1971 when she began teaching at the Hathaway School in New Bedford. She has been serving in the Old Rochester Regional School District over 30 years and says that education has evolved so that children are consumed less with rote instruction and now are learning how to think through creative problem-solving. Arts in the Park215 viewsSeveral hundred people came out to enjoy the annual Arts in the Park fundraiser hosted by the Marion Art Center on July 10. Forty artists who had been invited by a MAC jury to participate featured their crafts and art objects. The jury ensures the quality of the items on display and also gives up-and-coming artisans a platform to showcase their work.
