Marion Holiday House182 viewsThe 33rd annual Marion Holiday House Tour was enjoyed by many on December 9. The annual fundraiser began at the Handy Tavern, the headquarters of the Sippican Woman's Club, which hosted the event. The tavern was built in 1812 and has been owned by the club for many decades. Club historian Jeanine Bruen shared that the club is celebrating its 100th year and for nearly that long has been taking care of this structure in the heart of Marion village. Rochester Historical Commission182 viewsThe Rochester Historical Commission began its historic plaque program as a way to enhance knowledge of the town's history. Recently, a plaque was placed at the Town Pound on Snipatuit Rd. by commission member, George Owen. The pound was not for household pets but for stray farm animals and problem animals of all sizes. While there were once many stone pounds of this type, most are gone. This pound from 1741 is a concrete reminder of Rochester's past.

Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk181 viewsDespite a downpour perfectly timed for its planned gathering on Friday off Point Road in Marion, the Sippican Lands Trust celebrated the completion of the new Osprey Marsh Accessible Boardwalk. Executive Director Jim Bride and president Alan Harris held a live Zoom meeting for those who could not attend, and some of the donors for the project assisted in the ribbon-cutting. Ms. Jerline used her Nature Anatomy book to help the girls identify plants. Ms. Liz and Ms. Alda helped the girls carry a tune as they learned three new songs for their Girl Scout Way badge. Ms. Tia helped remind them to maintain their 6 feet of distance with her yardstick and keep their masks on— they did so well! We welcomed a new girl from Acushnet.

Nolan Gibbons181 viewsOld Rochester Regional High School dedicated its music room on Tuesday in honor of the late Nolan Gibbons, an ORR student who passed away last year at age 15. Gibbons was a gifted composer, singer, and musician who played several instruments and was well known for his voice and stage presence.
