Wild Turkeys190 viewsWild turkeys as depicted by contributing writer and artist George B. Emmons, whose column in this issue discusses the revival of the bird symbolic to America’s Thanksgiving tradition. Despite being brought to America by colonists in 1620, hunting and deforestation had made them scarce in the northeast until U.S. Fish and Wildlife began transplanting them back from other areas in 1969. Now they are plentiful and roam freely in our neighborhoods. Illustration by George B. Emmons

Marion Natural History Museum190 viewsOn June 8, the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ram Island in Marion. The students watched various crabs in the salt marsh, visited several of the occupied Osprey nests and walked the shoreline looking for shells. We also had the opportunity to visit Clara and Darcy, the Moore’s pet donkeys. The museum would like to thank Dr. Michael Moore and his wife Hannah Moore for allowing us to explore the island’s many natural areas. Please visit our website: www.marionmus
