RBG193 viewsRegina McIntyre of Angelica Avenue in Mattapoisett erected a small but poignant memorial outside her home to honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg following the Supreme Court Justice’s passing. “I couldn’t travel to Washington, so I decided to place this memorial here to remember her work on behalf of both women and men,” adding: “She was such an example, (a) role model.” It was a family affair as McIntyre’s sister dressed the Ginsburg doll in a hand-sewn robe complete with seed pearl collar and red shoes.

Arts in the Park193 viewsSeveral hundred people came out to enjoy the annual Arts in the Park fundraiser hosted by the Marion Art Center on July 10. Forty artists who had been invited by a MAC jury to participate featured their crafts and art objects. The jury ensures the quality of the items on display and also gives up-and-coming artisans a platform to showcase their work. Strolling along the paths, people found pottery, wearable art, custom crafted furniture, and a wide variety of jewelry. Photos by Marilou Newell

Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race192 viewsIt rained, again, for the Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race on Monday, May 29, but that never stops the participants from paddling the 14 miles of the Mattapoisett River that winds from Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir in Snipatuit Pond in Rochester all the way to the Herring Weir in Mattapoisett off River Road and Route 6. This was the 83rd year of the Tri-Town tradition. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Wells192 viewsMarion’s well field at Mary’s Pond is a work in progress, as three state-of-the-art, 12-inch well pipes with submersible pumps are replacing 26 red-capped pipes that measure 2½ inches in diameter. The network of smaller pipes has been operated by one pump located inside the station building. When completed, Marion expects that upgrades at the East and West well fields and at Mary’s Pond will enable the town to double its water production. See story on Water/Sewer Commissioners.
