On September 23 it took ten enthusiastic little gardeners to pull up a ten-foot tall sunflower and carry it to “Weed Mountain.” After, the kids collected greens, grasses, and flowers to make an arrangement for the main office. Marion Master Plan174 viewsMarion took its first step toward developing a new Marion Master Plan on September 27 by having residents and town officials alike gather to review past master plans and split into focus groups to devise a new vision for Marion. Many agreed that the current Master Plan is still relevant, with the majority concerned mostly with preserving the historic character of the town.

Cranberry Outing174 viewsPerfect weather brought out the young and the young at heart to the second annual cranberry harvest at “The Bogs” on Acushnet Road in Mattapoisett, a Buzzards Bay Coalition property. The retired bog acreage is slowly returning to meadows and woodlands. But for now cranberries continue to grow giving the do-it-yourself harvester a chance to enjoy nature’s bounty. Marion Fire Department174 viewsThe Marion Fire Department celebrated the careers of three of its retiring firefighters on November 8. Deputy Chiefs William Scott, Charles Blanchette, and Scott Cowell were toasted (and roasted) by Marion Fire Chief Thomas Joyce before family and friends at the Marion VFW Saturday night. The wives of MacDougal and Blanchette, and the daughter of Cowell, attached new deputy chief badges on the three gentlemen during the pinning ceremony, and the three selectmen honored the retiring chiefs with gifts.

Harvest Family Dance174 viewsFamilies danced the night away the evening of November 15 during the Harvest Family Dance hosted by the Southcoast Children’s Chorus. Marion Village Stroll174 viewsThere were hundreds strolling the streets during the 2014 Marion Holiday Stroll on December 14. Celebrity sightings included Santa Claus on his carriage, the Grinch, the Nutcracker, and Sparky the Fire Dog. The Showstoppers and The Sippican School Marching Band lit up the afternoon until the tree lighting ceremony lit up the night, the finale of that starry-skied evening. Marion Natural History Museum174 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank the Marion Harbormaster's office for a wonderful trip to Bird Island. The students were able to visit the island and see some of the birds that rely on this special habitat for raising their young. The children saw Oystercatchers, Osprey, and Terns. They also learned a little about the history of the lighthouse. Annual Marion SpringFest174 viewsMay 9 was the day of the Annual Marion SpringFest sponsored by the Sippican Lands Trust and the Tree and Parks Committee! There was a performance by the Toe Jam Puppet Band, a Birds of Prey demonstration, face painting, and a rock-climbing wall.
