Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association259 viewsThe Mattapoisett Firefighter’s Association hosted a chowder competition on September 13 on the Mattapoisett Knights of Columbus grounds. Between 300 and 400 guests came to sample the chowder of 16 different teams, split into two categories: public safety and professional. The fundraiser proceeds go to fund local youth sports, a cause that was dear to the late Barrows’ heart. Barrows was the owner of the bad “Brad’s” in Mattapoisett until his death in 2007. Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride 259 viewsIt was a windy ride for the 120 participants of the 9th Annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride on October 4. From Westport to Falmouth, cyclists rode either the 75-mile or 35-mile route to raise funds for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, bringing in nearly $90,000. MNHM Bird Island Trip259 viewsMany thanks to Mike, Isaac and Adam of the Marion Harbormaster’s office for the wonderful trip to Bird Island last week. Warm weather and very little wind added up to a perfect opportunity to explore the island during it’s shore bird “off season”. We looked for left over eggs, bones and nesting material. We also had an opportunity to visit the light house and take in views from the top, which included Cape Cod and the canal railroad bridge. Thank you for the great trip!
