Marion Village 5K263 viewsThe number of participants in this year’s Marion Village 5K might have been down slightly according to race organizers, but the sentiment of fun and competition certainly was not on Saturday, June 25. Taking first place for men was Andrew Sukeforth of Middleboro with a time of 15:43, and Meg Hughes of Rochester won first place in the women’s division with a time of 19:50. Those who played helped raise an extra $523 the Lions Club will use to benefit the community. Nativity Preparatory School263 viewsOn Monday, September 19, the Annual Golf and Tennis Tournament fundraiser to benefit the Nativity Preparatory School of New Bedford was held at the Bay Club in Mattapoisett. Larry Oliveira, a trustee of the board and co-chair of the event, is pleased to announce that in spite of rain that day, the benefit netted $71,000 for the school. Tennis players competed indoors at the Marion Tennis Center and many golfers and tennis players attended the dinner and auction.

Veterans Day Ceremony in Mattapoiset263 viewsCol. Joseph McGraw was the guest speaker during the Veterans Day Ceremony at Old Hammondtown School. McGraw has a long and impressive military career. He graduated in 1994 from U.S. Military Academy and achieved successive ranks to become a full colonel in 2015. Annual Turkey Trot 5K 263 viewsThe Annual Turkey Trot 5K wound its way through Marion Village on Sunday, November 17, with 182 trotters (and some ‘turkeys’ as well) braving a chilling wind that morning to make it to the finish line. Organized by the Marion Recreation Department, the event every year draws quite a flock of runners to the start and finish line at Tabor Academy, raising funds for Marion Rec programs and events.
