Strengthening Families Fair325 viewsThere was so much to do and discover on March 1 at the “Strengthening Families Fair”, funded by the Department of Early Education & Care, and coordinated by the Old Rochester Regional School District. The gymnasium at the ORR High School was set up like a kids’ wonderland, with art projects, reading activities, brightly-colored gymnastics equipment, a flowing rainbow parachute, and…everyone’s favorite local children’s music group, “the Toe Jam Puppet Band.” Photo by Jean Perry

Ned’s Point Easter325 viewsThe sky was blue above the greening grass on that sunny spring Mattapoisett morning by the sea. On April 12, families gathered at Ned’s Point to celebrate Easter early with a traditional Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Mattapoisett Lions Club. The Easter Bunny hopped over for a visit, giving children hugs and high-fives as parents scurried to take photos and comfort the smaller ones who were a little reluctant to approach. Mattapoisett Historical Society325 viewsEver tried eating a salty piece of hard tack, made your own signal flags, or learned to tie nautical knots? Some pint-sized future sailors at the Mattapoisett Historical Society Museum learned about what it was like to be a sailor back in the whaling days, with a little bit of history sneaked into all the fun and games.
