National Night Out Against Crime224 viewsTuesday, August 2, was the annual National Night Out Against Crime on the school grounds of Old Rochester Regional. The Mattapoisett, Marion, and Rochester Police Departments were joined by the Tri-Town Fire and EMS Departments, Marion Harbormaster, and Marion Recreation. Dry Harvest224 viewsIt’s cranberry season in Southeastern Massachusetts. With drought conditions, dry harvesting the berries has started largely unaffected by the lack of water thus far, but bog flooding later in the season could be affected if water sources are not replenished with rain. Paula and Dana Johnson of Rochester are in the midst of their dry pick, circling the bogs, one after the other, day in and day out with their mechanical Furfords and burlap sacks to harvest the cranberries fit for fresh fruit sale.

The estate, located in Canton, is a property of The Trustees of Reservations and open to the public. The ladies had a guided tour of the grounds and then enjoyed a bag lunch on the loggia.

Christmas Baskets224 viewsOn Tuesday, December 20, Rochester Facilities Manager Andrew Daniel was tying perfect Christmas bows to top off gift baskets for Rochester families purchased with donations from Town Hall staff and town boards and committees. Four families this year will receive a Christmas meal in a basket thanks to the efforts of all at Town Hall. Altogether $1,400 was raised at Town Hall, with half going to the gift baskets and the other half towards other town Christmas charities. Photos by Jean Perry
