Frosty Runner Road Race217 viewsRunners who participated in the third annual Frosty Runner Road Race enjoyed spring-like weather, perfect for a 10 mile or 3 mile run through the neighborhoods of Rochester. The two separate races were run simultaneously, beginning and ending at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School on Saturday February 1. Hundreds turned out to greet Santa, listen to the RMS chorus and band play Christmas carols, and watch as the flick of a switch lit up the tree, symbolizing the official start of Christmas in Rochester. Lost Ladybug Project217 viewsGuided by Loree Griffin Burns, children headed out on May 30 from Plumb Library to search for ladybugs to photograph and document for the Lost Ladybug Project. In all, the kids found five ladybugs. The event was funded by a MOBY grant and organized by the RMS PTOs, the RLT, Kathy Gauvin at ORR, and the three town Cultural Councils. Mass Mini Tractor Pullers 217 viewsThe Rochester Country Fairgrounds hosted a tractor pull of the Mass Mini Tractor Pullers Association on October 10. The tractors are hand-built by their owners, using naturally-aspirated auto engines that are 500-1,000 horsepower. Rochester Memorial Day217 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. A project to restore the Shoolman Reserve Hayfield to its historic boundary is underway. Volunteers Bruce MacPhail, Mike Bare, Art Benner, Noreen Hartley, Mike Hugeunin, Bob Lawrence, and Pete Stroud have made quite a dent thus far, and quite a lot of piles.
