Arbor Day221 viewsOutgoing Rochester Town Administrator Michael McCue led a small Arbor Day gathering on Friday, April 29, outside the Rochester Police Station where the Highway Department has planted ten Leyland cypress trees to screen the gas tank located at the site. George's Pony Pasture221 viewsOn Saturday morning, a work crew gathered at George's Pony Pasture on Mattapoisett Road in Rochester. They attacked the briers, bittersweet, brush and tree trunks. About half the length of the wall was cleaned up in this initial effort, but there's more to be done. Homecoming Queens 221 viewsColleen Oakes, originally from Marion, and Renee Buteyne, from Rochester, finished the trip of a lifetime on Monday, July 16, having ridden across the United States on their bicycles. Leaving Portland, Oregon on May 2, the two childhood friends arrived at Buteyne’s parents’ driveway about a month earlier than anticipated, greeted by family, friends, confetti, cookies, and of course, hugs. 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair 221 viewsThe 108th Annual Rochester Grange Fair was held on August 18 with a wide variety of produce, floral bouquets, baked goods, handicrafts, and works of art. The state first place winner for her diorama depicting a barn that contained fresh eggs and produce was Susan Guiducci of Dartmouth. There were a total of 35 entries vying for other blue ribbons in many other categories. Sue LaFluer, grange secretary and one of the fair organizers said that participants ranged in age from 6 years of age and beyond.

Plumb Library in Rochester kicked off their summer reading program entitled “Dig Into Reading” last Friday evening at the Congressional Church, where “Mad Scientist” Laser Leigh presented a group of K-6 graders from the Tri-Town area with several scientific experiments and an informative-yet-fun lecture on the wide scientific world.
