Library Henna187 viewsThe Elizabeth Taber Library hosted a henna tattoo program for teens, with each guest receiving their own henna creation by professional henna artist Heather Cault-Nulton. The art of henna dates back thousands of years and has recently grown in popularity. As part of a new initiative to draw teens into the library, the afternoon henna event was held on March 1 and attracted 13 area teens to experience the beauty of henna. Photos by Colin Veitch

Marion Natural History Museum187 viewsMany thanks to the Blue Hill Audubon's Trailside Museum and the Marion Cultural Council for the fun program last Friday night. Participants were able to get up close and personal with two very different looking Eastern box turtles, a spotted turtle, and a very long black rat snake. We also discussed timber rattlesnakes and how to properly pick up a turtle to help it get across the road safely. Be aware, they may get upset and emit some fluid onto your leg so best to hold at a distance from your body!

Living History 187 viewsIt looked like July 8, 1776 at Silvershell Beach in Marion this past Saturday. Folks from the Fairhaven Village Militia and Wareham Militia Group in conjunction with Marion Recreation and the Marion Cultural Council took spectators back in time to Colonial Massachusetts during a weekend-long encampment at the beach. Participants in olde-tyme apparel demonstrated what life was like in the 1770s during the Revolutionary War through demonstrations of drilling, cooking, and flintlock musket use. Photos by Jean

Marion Natural History Museum187 viewsOn Wednesday, the Marion Natural History Museum's after school group created a soil profile for the museum and took an inventory of the creatures in different types of soils. The students also learned with the use of a rain-simulator that soil that is too well worked will compact, and water will run off the top instead of getting to the roots of plants.
