Stone Walls of New England310 viewsDr. Robert Thorson spoke to a full house at the Marion Natural History Museum Friday night. Dr. Thorson spoke about the practical, as well as emotional, reasons why New Englanders love their stone walls. Just looking at a stone wall in its natural landscape can provide an insight into the history of Earth's formation. Stone walls are aesthetically beautiful, give us hints about our past, and provide important habitat functions for both plants and animals.

Marion Memorial Day310 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. Students used binoculars to view robins, cardinals, mourning doves and Canada geese. We also spoke about the Great Backyard Bird Count that took place February 17-20. Hundreds upon hundreds of little ghosts, ghouls, and goblins took to the streets to show off their costumes and follow it up with some treats (no tricks) and refreshments at the Marion Music Hall, sponsored by those very kind witches at the Marion Art Center.
