June in Bloom87 viewsNearing the fifth anniversary of the passing of Nolan Gibbons, Nolanfest 2025 was held at Silvershell Beach this past Saturday evening. Hundreds were in attendance to pay tribute, remember, and support local singers and musical artists. Over 20 different performances occurred at the stage, including The Showstoppers, of which Nolan was a member beginning in 2014 at the age of nine. The event was free but saw numerous donations to the Nolan Gibbons Memorial Fund which goes towards supporting artists through

Mattapoisett Land Trust86 viewsOn May 6, volunteers from the Mattapoisett Land Trust planted over two dozen sunflower seedlings in a row along Route 6 at Dunseith Park, just in front of Salty the Seahorse. Don Cuddy donated the seedlings and organized the planting as a symbolic gesture of MLT standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. Mattapoisett Boatyard Fire86 viewsSmoke rose over Mattapoisett Harbor on August 19 after a boat caught fire during the replacement of a gasoline tank. An explosion followed by a raging fire leveled Mattapoisett Boatyard and destroyed the 14 boats and 47 vehicles on site. Members of the Kaiser family who own the business and members of the McLean family who founded the business surveyed the ruins on the weekend and vow to rebuild. Oil Spill Drill86 viewsOn Tuesday, the Town of Mattapoisett hosted a MassDEP-sponsored training course in cooperation with the Town of Fairhaven, representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, Nuka Research and Planning Group and Moran Environmental Recovery. Mattapoisett Polar Plunge86 viewsNew Year’s Day 2023 was bright and balmy when over 100 “plungers” ran, walked, hopped and slid into the freezing waters at Mattapoisett Town Beach. The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. The group has been successful in their efforts to help offset the unseen costs associated with a cancer diagnosis impacting local families.
