Mattapoisett’s Fire Department5 viewsMattapoisett’s Fire Department opened its doors to the community on October 12 with a grand party filled with family, friends and pizza. The event was an opportunity for the department to highlight fire prevention while tiny tots donned helmets and rang the bell on an antique fire engine. “It’s a great success,” said Chief Andrew Murray of the event that hosted several hundred people of all ages. New Fire Engine Number 3 was on display having just a day before been added to the fleet.

Courageous 84 viewsOn August 6, Jeep owners and supporters of the local Relay for Life team, the Courageous 8 founded by survivor Laurie Nunes, gathered for the annual Jeeps and Peeps Rally at Ned's Point. Manning the information table were long-time team members Nancy Souza and Wendy Medeiros. The rally brought together Jeep owners and relay supporters from Rhode Island, Texas and North Carolina. Working the Mattapoisett Harbormaster boat piloted by P.J. Beaudoin were Assistant Harbormaster Robert Clavin and intern Robert Haskell, and on the Mattapoisett Fire Department boat were Firefighter Daniel Cortes and Lieutenant Ross Macedo. Kayak Clinic3 viewsAugust 9 and 10, the Mattapoisett Land Trust in partnership with the Mattapoisett Recreation Department held two kayak clinics for children ages 8 to 12. MLT volunteers provided safety instructions, a major focus of the program. Kayak introductory instruction has been provided by the two organizations for six years.
