Kayak Clinic13 viewsAugust 9 and 10, the Mattapoisett Land Trust in partnership with the Mattapoisett Recreation Department held two kayak clinics for children ages 8 to 12. MLT volunteers provided safety instructions, a major focus of the program. Kayak introductory instruction has been provided by the two organizations for six years. Great Picnic13 viewsAttendees at Friday night’s “Great Picnic” on the one-acre Munro preserve overlooking Mattapoisett Harbor enjoyed live music and adorned their tables with creatively competitive centerpieces featuring everything from a palm tree to pickleballs. Mattapoisett Land Trust Vice President Peter Davies told the Wanderer that the Mattapoisett Museum and the MLT have jointly organized the event for five nonconsecutive years. 13 viewsSmoke rose over Mattapoisett Harbor on August 19 after a boat caught fire during the replacement of a gasoline tank. An explosion followed by a raging fire leveled Mattapoisett Boatyard and destroyed the 14 boats and 47 vehicles on site. Members of the Kaiser family who own the business and members of the McLean family who founded the business surveyed the ruins on the weekend and vow to rebuild. MBY Boat Parade13 viewsMattapoisett Harbormaster Jamie McIntosh and Assistant Harbormaster Robert Clavin rounded up the procession of over 100 boats, while Assistant Harbormaster P J Gerald Beaudoin and Deputies Luke Mello and Sydney Haskell led them around Mattapoisett Harbor during Sunday’s parade that featured the Jaguar tugboat that earlier this year took the Mayflower back to Plymouth. This year, Buzzards Bay Coalition was chosen to be the recipient of their fundraising efforts, presenting the coalition with a check for $390.
