Keep on Plungin’ 150 viewsThe annual Keep on Plungin’ New Year’s Day swim drew well over 100 participants to Mattapoisett Town Beach, continuing a tradition started in 2013 by Will and Michelle Huggins to help families facing expenses related to cancer care. In the last two years, the community-driven effort has benefitted three families and Dana Farber with a $1,000 donation in Huggins’ honor. Dunseith Gardens150 viewsPeople gathered on Saturday morning at Dunseith Gardens in Mattapoisett to enjoy the “Coretta” story walk, a collaboration of the Mattapoisett Land Trust, Tri-Town Against Racism, and the Mattapoisett Free Public Library. The story walk based on the autobiography of Coretta Scott King points to the importance of providing children with printed reading materials that represent diversity and inclusion.

Holiday at Shipyard Park150 viewsMattapoisett’s annual Holiday at Shipyard Park was held on December 14 to the delight of the young and not-so-young. The family-centered event featured Mr. and Mrs. Clause, Frosty, and Rudolph as well as a really big beach chair. The holiday tree was festooned with decorated buoys in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Refreshments were provided by area eateries offering a wide variety of goodies and fan favorite hot chocolate. Music was provided by local students. Photos by

Weathervane150 viewsEric Lawrence is building a new home in the Mattapoisett village on Foster Street which will include a cupola with a weathervane on top. “We decided to go with ‘Mary Poppins’ for a fun and whimsical choice. We will have a few children in the neighborhood and thought it be nice for them to see which way she is pointing every day,” said Lawrence.

The Mattapoisett native sailed his 27-foot boat Why Worry on a solo journey that took him as far as Turks and Caicos south of the Bahamas.
