Harbor Days140 viewsSaturday was a splendid day to celebrate Harbor Days, with thousands turning out throughout the day ahead of Sunday’s dubious weather forecast that caused the early end to the annual weeklong event at Shipyard Park. The Lions Club reports a higher-than-average turnout, and proceeds to benefit charity were also up this year. Photos by Jean Perry

Fish Ladder Repair139 viewsThe Mattapoisett Water Department, along with the assistance of the state’s Division of Marine Fisheries and local herring inspectors, were able to purchase the necessary lumber and rebuild the fish ladder at the Mattapoisett River Dam. There are 13 ladders that make up the weir, which allows easier access for the herring to head upstream. They are hoping to see the first few fish within the next couple of weeks.
