Freezin' for a Reason 2014183 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. World Tai Chi and Qigong Day183 viewsA group in Mattapoisett joined others across the globe in celebrating World Tai Chi and Qigong Day on April 26 at 10:00 am, just as other groups did at 10:00 am in their local time zones. Led by Tai Chi Practitioner Colman Fink, 15 locals moved gracefully together with conscious breath in the downstairs of the Mattapoisett Free Library – thanks to the rain that dampened the plan to meet at Ned’s Point for a second year in a row. Seniors Appreciation at Center School183 viewsOne of the highlights of the third-grade school year, students dressed up as famous Americans and treated senior citizens from the Council on Aging to a senior citizen appreciation breakfast the morning of June 6. Breakfast with Santa183 viewsIn 2014 the Mattapoisett Police Officer’s Association partnered up with the Mattapoisett Knight’s of Columbus in their already established “Breakfast with Santa.” This year we asked for each family to bring a new or slightly used gift, jacket or book to later be delivered to Gift’s To Give. The Assocoation had a great turn out and met their goal in filling a police cruiser.

Chili Cook-off183 viewsThe MattMen of Mattapoisett Congregational Church came together Sunday night, January 25th ,to see who amongst them cooks up the best man-made chili. Tasting was free to all who came. Those who wished to vote contributed $5 to The Baby Project of New Bedford. $518 was raised for The Baby Project. Out of 15 chili cooks who prepared 16 pots of chili, Rory McFee received the most votes for his “Smoky Chili.”. Bob Field’s “Oyster Chili” came in second place. Photo by Felix Perez
