Holiday in the Park211 viewsIt looked like another record turnout at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett on December 9 for the annual Holiday in the Park and tree lighting. The tent was stuffed with hot foods, cocoa, donuts, Christmas cookies, and the hundreds of people in line to warm up out of the snowy cold. Did you miss the tree lighting? Christmas Day Swim211 viewsThe Helping Hands and Hooves’ annual Christmas Day Swim was preceded by a polar plunge in the weather and a brief ‘snownado’ of sorts as the winds swept snow and sleet across the area only minutes before enthusiastic participants in costume arrived at the Mattapoisett Town Beach and raced into the icy waters. Harbor Days211 viewsSaturday was a splendid day to celebrate Harbor Days, with thousands turning out throughout the day ahead of Sunday’s dubious weather forecast that caused the early end to the annual weeklong event at Shipyard Park. The Lions Club reports a higher-than-average turnout, and proceeds to benefit charity were also up this year. Photos by Jean Perry

Christmas Plunge211 viewsHelping Hands and Hooves of Mattapoisett continued the tradition of plunging into the chilly waters of the Town Beach on Christmas morning as a way to fundraise for the non-profit organization’s free equestrian therapy programs serving local differently-abled adults. Mother’s Day Tiara 5k211 viewsSunday’s wind and rain wasn’t stopping the hundreds who participated in the annual Mother’s Day Tiara 5k in Mattapoisett on May 10. The storm brought strong wind and cold rain to the area, especially at the turn around Ned’s Point Lighthouse, dampening the day but not the sentiment behind the Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts’ largest annual fundraising event.
