International Association of Lions Clubs President Barry J. Palmer of Berowra, NSW, Australia, was guest speaker and presenter of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to six Mattapoisett Lions. The Klondike derby uses sledges and Klondike Gold Rush themes to compete in a multiple “Town” course, pitting each team’s skills and teamwork against the clock. The purposes of the derby are: first a grand outdoor winter adventure full of fun and surprises, and another way for Scout’s to test their basic camping and survival skills.
