Marion Natural History Museum106 viewsMany thanks to soil scientist Maggie Payne for her fun and fascinating program about composting with worms. We had a close up look at Red Wiggler worms and they definitely lived up to their name by jumping about during the program. We had a chance to inspect them using magnifying glasses and microscopes trying to determine which end was which. We then created a habitat for them with shredded paper and leftover vegetables. Each student had a chance to bring their worm farm home. Mar 26, 2025

Marion Natural History Museum131 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s community group learned to identify all types of frogs that can be found in Massachusetts. We also heard the different calls of the frogs from the Wood Frog’s “quack” to the Green Frog’s banjo “twang.” To register for frog watch training you may contact the Roger Williams Park and Zoo. Thank you to Maggie for her terrific program. Please view our upcoming programs at www.marionmuseum.org. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Liedhold.Mar 26, 2025

Marion Natural History Museum112 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Joe Dwelly, the "butterfly man" for sharing his considerable experience with our native butterflies. We spoke about how different species spend the winter, issues with migrating populations while out of this country, food sources, and which native plantings would most benefit them. Joe also shared some of his funny stories about how he was able to get some of his amazing butterfly photos. To view register for some of our upcoming programs please go to the muMar 26, 2025

Marion Natural History Museum125 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank board member and President of the Nasketucket Bird Club Justin Barrett for his presentation on the birds of Panama. The birds were beautifully colored and with beaks well designed for eating fruit, their primary food source. Along with the magnificent bird specimens we also saw several monkeys and other exotic animals from Justin’s trip. The museum wishes to thank Justin for sharing his amazing birding adventure with us on a dark and dreary winter morning. Mar 26, 2025
