Marion Natural History Museum6 viewsOn November 30, the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group had a chance to learn about the different types of trees in our area and to look at some equipment used by foresters to help protect our trees. By looking at a tree "cookie," we were able to count the rings to determine its age and learn about the services, the different sections, including the heart wood, sap wood and bark or phloem provides the tree.

St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church 11 viewsSt. Gabriel's Episcopal Church of Marion friends and families gathered after the morning service to make advent wreaths. An advent wreath is a circle of greenery, marked by four candles that represent the four Sundays of the season of Advent. An additional candle is lit as each new Sunday is celebrated in Advent. The making of advent wreaths on the first Sunday of Advent has become a tradition for St. Gabriel's Church. Come and join us next year. Photos courtesy of Tanya Ambrosi

Marion Natural History Museum 6 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum community group and the Nasketucket Bird Club had a wonderful birding walk on November 16 led by Justin Barrett. We were able to identify over 18 different species of birds including belted kingfishers, golden-crowned kinglets, and red-breasted Nuthatches. We were also able to see two River Otters peering at us from the icy pond. Keep watching the Museum's website, marionmuseum.org, for future birding trips. Photo courtesy of Elizabeth Leidhold
