Veterans Day Speaker1151 viewsLieutenant Commander Daniel Parilla, USN, of the Newport Naval War College will be the Principal Speaker at the Mattapoisett Veterans Day Ceremonies on Friday, November 11 starting at 11:00 am at Old Hammondtown School. LCDR Parilla wears the Heroic Action Air Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, and two Strike Flight Air Medals, along with various other commendations.

Artistic Expressions1865 viewsOne of the unique abstract depictions of a famous quote from W.C. Fields as interpreted by Rochester artist Renee Richard Ouellette which will be included in her one-person exhibit at the Wamsutta Club in New Bedford from November 1 through December 6, 2005. The club is open Monday-Thursday from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 9:30 am to 9:00 pm. There will be a reception to meet the artist on November 10 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Cultivating Compassion1798 viewsPat Olney, Jean Kittridge and Barbara Whalen of the Garden Group ladies of the Mattapoisett Women’s Club, have been busy digging, dividing, and baking to benefit the hurricane victims. The group will hold a small plant sale/auction on Saturday, October 8 at 10:00 am at Dunseith Gardens on the corner of Route 6 and North Street in Mattapoisett, with all proceeds to benefit the American Red Cross.

Whale Winner1272 viewsFive-year-old Kate Lima of New Bedford is the winner of the “Name the Whale” Contest sponsored by First Night New Bedford. Kate chose to name the event’s tell-tale mascot “Welcome the Whale.” The First Night New Bedford 2006 committee chose the winning name “Welcome” for its cheerful whale design depicted on First Night buttons and posters. Kate received several prizes for her winning entry.
