"Play Ball" ... Mock Trial in Marion942 views“Anne Hutchinson” (Christina Hai) is sworn in by real-life Attorney Laura O’Rourke during Sippican School’s recent mock trial, The Massachusetts Bay Colony vs. Anne Hutchinson. The Marion students learned about the trial from 1637 where Ms. Hutchinson was banished from the colony for allegedly being “a woman not fit for society” because of her religious beliefs.

Tucker Johnson (Don Quixote), and Chelsie Nectow (Aldonza) will star in the ORR Drama Club’s production of Man of La Mancha, to be performed at ORR High School Thursday through Saturday, March 30, 31 and April 1 at 7:30 pm; and on Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $12 for adults, and $8 for seniors and students and are now available at the Pen and Pendulum in Mattapoisett, the Marion General Store, and the Plumb Corner Market in Rochester. DARE Returns1097 viewsRochester Patrolman and DARE Officer Kevin Flynn instructs one of four sixth grade classes at Rochester Memorial School about the dangers and health risks associated with smoking cigarettes. Officer Flynn and Rochester Police Chief Paul Magee recently pushed to revive the DARE Program at the town’s elementary school, despite cutbacks in state aid. Student Notes1000 viewsThe Mattapoisett Center School Strings performed at the Friends of Old Rochester Music (FORM) Concert again this year at ORR High School. At left are third graders Dottie Vance and Sam Appleton. Marking tradition, all the tri-town bands joined together at the culmination of the concert. The concert, which was presented by the Old Rochester Regional Music Department, allows tri-town area music students to perform for and with each other while raising money for music scholarships. Yoga for Youth1027 viewsStudents at Sippican School in Marion enjoy the benefits of yoga classes which have been sponsored at the school by the non-profit Yoga Kids, Inc. for the past six years. Teachers have noted marked improvement in students who take yoga classes as it helps them to better concentrate in class. Spring Chamber Concert992 viewsInternationally-renowned violist Don Krishnaswami will be one of the featured performers for the South Coast Chamber Music Society’s spring concerts to be held at 7:30 pm on Saturday, March 4 at Tabor Academy in Marion, and again at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 5 at Grace Episcopal Church in New Bedford. The concerts combine the familiar names of J.S. Bach and Maurice Ravel with less frequently heard composers, Louis Moyse, Carlos Salzedo, and Phillipe Gaubert.
